When evaluating whether a Louis Vuitton bag is authentic or fake, the details matter. Stitching is one of features that can help identify counterfeits — if you know what to look for. First, a quick overview of some main points from the expert of all things pre-loved LV, Lusso & Lux:

Color
An authentic Louis Vuitton monogram bag has mustard yellow thread on the Vachetta. If it’s bright yellow or darker than you expect, it’s almost certainly fake. The stitching will also match the color of the bag and lining so it could be mustard yellow on the outside on a handle, but be white/beige/red etc. on the inside.
Alignment
An authentic Louis Vuitton bag will have very precise stitching that is perfectly straight with even stitches.
TIP: The handles on an authentic Louis Vuitton Neverfull will always have five stitches on the each of the two stitch lines meeting in a point, as shown in the image above.
Backstitching
This is another place many counterfeiters fail. Backstitching is as important to the integrity of a Louis Vuitton bag as any other feature. In the above counterfeit wallet you can see that the backstitch is poorly executed and has actually caused damage to the material.
