Princess Diana's Lady Dior Bag Can Be Yours
Dior reissues the Lady Dior bag that Princess Diana Carried to the Met Ball
In 1996, Princess Diana attended the Met Gala (for the one and only time in her life) with a custom Lady Dior bag on her arm. Now, (maybe?!) thanks to the wild success of The Crown, the French fashion house has reissued the exact Lady Dior bag design that the People’s Princess carried to the iconic party.
25 years after Princess Diana made the Lady Dior bag famous, the style remains a best-seller for Dior and comes in five distinct sizes (large, medium, small, mini, and micro), as well as a range of materials from understated lambskin to opulent beaded embroidery. But something about owning the blue satin Lady Dior that Princess Diana wore feels extra special in the best of ways.
The year Princess Diana attended the Met Gala, the fete was honoring the legacy of Christian Dior. Her navy satin Lady Dior bag perfectly coordinated with her John Galliano-designed navy satin slip dress and her iconic seven-stranded pearl choker necklace with the enormous sapphire. (ICYMI, that was dubbed the “revenge necklace” because she paired with a dramatic black cocktail dress when she strategically went out on the town at the exact time Prince Charles admitted to adultery in a TV interview.)
The limited-edition Lady Dior bag will sell for about $6,300 in the United States and €5,000 in Europe (which is a pretty significant savings considering current exchange rates). That said, Dior only issued 200 pieces so if you want one, don’t hesitate! FWIW, this style has a high chance of selling above retail on the pre-loved market, making it a solid investment.
