Valentine’s Day is almost here, which means now is the perfect time to embrace your inner Polly Pocket with a heart-shaped bag. But much like Valentine’s Day plans, not all heart-shaped bags are created equal. Our complete guide to our favorite (and not so favorite) love-themed accessories below.
Bags We Love
These bags made our heart skip a beat. Yes, we know the Chanel heart bag is from 2022, but sometimes old flames burn bright — and if you happened to snap this up last year, you not only bought a dream bag, but also made a great investment. The Chanel heart bag is now selling on the pre-loved market for 150% its original retail price. (Another reminder to Mynt your bags!)
Next up is the Louis Vuitton Pop My Heart Pouch, from the Cruise ‘23 collection. It retails just over $2,000, but is already bouncing around on the pre-loved market for more than twice that price. Last but not least are the Gucci Ophidia Heart Utility Belt (so sporty!) and Judith Lieber’s crystal-embellished clutch (so classic!).
Bags We Hate
Hate might be too strong a word — well, except for the Moschino Biker Heart bag. As for the Sparkle Nano Heart Shoulder Bag by Paco Rabanne (RIP), we’re superfans of Rabanne’s use of paillets on clothes, but when you scale down his signature style for a bag, it loses its edge. A dress made out of these heart paillets we could totally get behind.
We realize this is probably a controversial stance, but this Dioramour Dior Caro Heart Pouch with Chain feels random and inelegant when compared to the other Caro options in Dior’s lineup. The red enamel accents on the chain seem particularly unnecessary, though the chain is removable so that can be fixed :)
It’s Complicated
We didn’t get these at first, but the more we look at these Brandon Maxwell Mini Heart-Shaped bags, the more we like them. Their exteriors are silk, which means they’re easily damaged, but also makes them appropriate for more formal and evening affairs. They immediately conjur up memories of our Lisa Frank Trapper Keepers and we’ve decided that’s a plus, not a minus, as those might be the only thing we miss about junior high.
