Chanel Raises Prices by (Another) 17%
Your guide to Chanel's most notable price hikes since 2020
On March 2, Chanel raised prices on many of its most popular bags. Included in the price hike were the Chanel Classic Flap, the Chanel 2.55 Reissue Flap, and the Chanel 19, among others. The Classic Flap increased 16-17%, depending on the size. 17% is steep on its own, but when you realize this is 17% more than 52% more, the compound interest-style impact of these increases starts to become clearer. Here’s a complete rundown of why we all should have bought this bag three years ago:
On average, a Chanel Classic Flap will cost you 75% more today than it would have in April 2020. In comparison, a Birkin 25 Togo will cost you less than 6% more. The Chanel 2.55 Reissue Flap follows this same pattern:
As you can see, the most popular sizes of the 2.55 Reissue are priced identically to the Chanel Medium Classic Flap and the Chanel Jumbo Classic Flap. And then there’s the Chanel 19 — a bag that sat out a handful of price hikes but is back to make up somewhat for lost time:
On average, a Chanel 19 will cost you 35% more today than in March 2020. The fact that 35% seems modest tells you just how wild the other price increases are :)
